Responsibilities

Planning and Development encompasses a broad spectrum of policies, programs, and resources that affect the public. The goal of these programs is to further the welfare of people and their communities by creating an attractive quality of life and environment for present and future generations. These Comprehensive Planning Services include conducting long and short range planning projects, coordinates annexations, updates and maintains the Crandall Comprehensive Plan, conducts small area plans, and provides research into historical and future development patterns of the city of Crandall.

Planing and Development

The activities of this division fall into the following key areas:

  • Comprehensive Development - This includes comprehensive development review and application management.
  • Comprehensive, long-range, and strategic planning. Dedicated to the long-term future of the city's strategic plan.
  • Small area neighborhood and sector planning.
  • Planning-related data management and research.
  • Development Review Services. This covers areas such as ordinance amendments, subdivision platting, land use regulation, development standards, public hearings for zoning amendments, and sign regulations. Also, this area covers information requests from citizens and other developers, such as zoning determinations and requirements for platting and variances.
  • Annexation administration. This area focuses on expanding the city’s boundaries and services consistent with its mission to appropriately manage growth.
  • Professional and administrative support for public boards and commissions.

Boards & Commissions

The City Council is responsible for the Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as the Zoning Board of Adjustment and Appeals.
