The Crandall Fire Department was formed in 1949 with a few dedicated men and a used Ahrens-Fox fire engine purchased from the Dallas Fire Department.  Whenever an alarm was received, someone had to run to the old fire station (the Quonset hut located at Main and Gleason) and set off the civil defense siren and hope there was someone within earshot of the siren to answer the emergency!  For 49 years the fire department operated out of the fire station located at Main and Gleason streets.  The first brand new fire engine ever purchased by the city was a 1979 Ford Two-man cab engine.  It had a 5-speed manual transmission and a 500-gallon water tank.  Finally, in 1998, the fire department was relocated to its current location at 500 East May St.  It is a 4 bay station complete with administrative offices, full kitchen, day room, bunkroom with showers and a tool room.  We run 2 engines, 2 grass trucks, rescue truck and a tanker out of the new station and have 23 dedicated volunteers.

Services performed by the CVFD include Fire Protection; 1st Responder/EMS; Fire Prevention and Education.  We are very active in the community with projects such as MDA, Special Olympics, and Silent Stars.  We welcome tours anytime of our fine facility!
